Amendments/Diversions
The court understands that people make mistakes and therefore we offer options for certain first-time offenders. These options are at the sole discretion of the City Prosecutor.
AMENDMENTS
- Minor traffic violations (e.g. speeding, disobeying a stop sign, etc.) can often be amended so that they don’t appear on a person’s driving record.
UPDATED: July 8, 2025: To enquire if the violation(s) listed on your citation would quality for an amendment without an appearance, contact the court clerk.
DIVERSIONS
- A more formal diversion process is available for violations such as a first DUI. Again, there are strict eligibility requirements to be able to qualify for a formal diversion, but you (and/or your attorney) should wait until your first court appearance to ask about this program.
- Teen diversion program: contact the Municipal Court Clerk to check if your violations follow under the guidelines for the teen diversion program.

MOTOR VEHICLE LIABILITY INSURANCE
Kansas requires all drivers to obtain and carry current and valid insurance for any vehicle driven on a Kansas roadway.
Insurance must be provided upon request of an officer upon a traffic stop. Failure to provide insurance may result in a citation being issued for this violation.
Upon receiving a citation for no proof of insurance the following is applies:
You have been cited for no proof of insurance:
- You had current and valid insurance, but unable to provide it at the time of the stop.
Within 10 working days you will need to provide a copy of the proof of insurance to the court. This can be done by emailing a copy of the insurance card to the clerk of the court at tdockery@cityofbasehor.org or bring a paper copy to the Court located at 1600 N 158th Street, Basehor. If the insurance is valid and provided within 10 days, the court will dismiss the insurance violation. - If insurance was not provided within that 10-day window or you did not have current insurance at the time of the violation you are required to provide that insurance to the prosecutor on your scheduled court date.
