Roadway improvements for segments of 158th Street and Parallel Road are planned to begin in 2025/26 and will include rehabilitation, reconstruction, and the modernization of segments of the two roads that will provide added safety and mobility for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
The improvements will include sections of 158th Street starting north of Garden Parkway to Parallel Road and along Parallel Road from 159th Street to 155th Street.
The project’s area is one mile in length and includes sections of 158th Street and Parallel Road that are adjacent to the site of the future Basehor Civic Campus. The multi-use campus will encompass 37.6 acres and include a splash pad, an event lawn, a playground, multi-use trails, and other civic facilities. The improvements planned for 158th Street and Parallel Road will include a new 5-foot sidewalk, stormwater improvements and the construction of turn lanes to safely access Basehor Civic Campus.
The total 158th Street and Parallel Road Improvement project is estimated to cost $9.2 million. More than 55% of the funds, $5.1 million, were awarded to the city in grants and external funding.
The project ties into additionally planned and funded trail improvements along the same route, commonly referred to as the “MetroGreen” trail. More information on the MetroGreen trail can be found here: https://www.cityofbasehor.org/346/MetroGreen-Trail-Project
Once the improvements to 158th Street and Parallel Road and the MetroGreen project are complete, segments of 158th Street and Parallel Road will include a pedestrian sidewalk on one side and a 10-foot wide multi-use path on the opposite side.
