Sales Tax Election Info
Building Basehor: Enhancing Police, Improving Parks, and Bettering Roads.
The City of Basehor will hold a special mail ballot election on June 8, 2023 to determine the City’s desire to impose a 1% general citywide sales tax with a 10-year sunset for the purpose of enhancing police, improving parks, and bettering roads. All registered voters within the city limits of Basehor will be eligible to vote. A sunset means the sales tax would expire after 10-years and could be renewed only upon approval by a vote of the people.
In the most recently conducted Citizen Satisfaction Survey, the residents of Basehor identified the top priorities for improvement as sidewalks/trail connections, walking and biking trails, streets, and park amenities.
Likewise, in the 2022 Comprehensive Plan and Parks Master Plan, community members were surveyed and asked to identify priorities for the City. The survey results indicated that respondents want to see more parks, opportunities for recreation, sidewalks, and trails.
Additionally, enhancing police has been a priority of Basehor’s Governing Body in the last several budget cycles. Basehor is a place where we take pride in our community and its safety.
The City plans on providing educational materials on this upcoming election to assist voters in making an informed decision. More information will be posted over the next several weeks regarding this sales tax election and the planned uses for this revenue. Please stay connected with the City for updates on its website at www.cityofbasehor.org and on its social media pages @cityofbasehor. The City will also be sending mailed communication in the Basehor Quarterly and through other methods. The City plans to host two open houses for the community so community members can meet with the City to ask questions about the sales tax election and the possible projects that could be funded if it were approved.
