Welcome
to the town of Basehor
The year 1889 marks the real beginning of the town of Basehor.
The City has become known for its lovely residential neighborhoods,
beautiful park and excellent schools. Over the past several
years, the City has benefited from the addition of retail
and office developments. With its convenient location to two
major interstates and its small town atmosphere, Basehor will
continue to grow in the years to come. As a resident or a
visitor enjoy the tranquility of small-town America.

Notes From the City Administrator
Carl Slaugh
For those of you who have been to the new Basehor library I think you will agree that it is a super nice facility. One gets a very warm and inviting feeling when moving about inside. It is like walking into a living room or study, a comfortable place to sit and read a good book or browse the internet.
Please take time to compliment Carla Kaiser, Director, Jenne Latham, Assistant Director or one of the library staff for the excellent work they have done to put it all together. The library board has done a lot of volunteer work over the last few years to plan for the new library, get the bond approved, and go over all the details in construction. While the new building was being planned and construction taking place a lot of time went into moving into the temporary library location. Janice Garcia, previous board president and the board members must have put in many hours to make it all happen. Lila White, president of Friends of the Basehor Community Library, received recognition at City Hall on behalf of the friends of the library for their help.
My compliments to each of you for your great effort and dedicated service to the community!

Governor to honor fallen Kansas law enforcement officers
In recognition of the Kansas Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony on Friday, May 9, and National Peace Officer’s Memorial Day on Thursday, May 15, Governor Kathleen Sebelius has ordered flags on state buildings be flown at half-staff on each of those days.
“Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every time they go to work, protecting the people of Kansas ,” Governor Sebelius said. “This year, we will honor Police Officer Robert Timothy Buckman, Macksville, who lost his life as he was warning citizens of the tornado that devastated Greensburg on May 4, 2007. I urge all Kansans to remember the brave men and women we’ve lost in the line of duty and pray for their families and friends.”
On May 9, Governor Sebelius will speak at the Kansas Law Enforcement Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m. in the Rotunda on the second floor of the Kansas Statehouse.
Governor Sebelius said, “This memorial is extremely important to the law enforcement community and to the families of law enforcement officers who have died. It symbolizes their courage and sacrifice and I’m honored to join law enforcement officers from around the state as we rededicate this memorial.”
In addition, H.J. Res. 730, P.L. 87-726 designates May 15 of each year as National Peace Officer’s Memorial Day.

All ramps at the interchange of K7 and US- 24/40 have been closed so construction can begin for the new K-7 and US-24/40 interchange in Wyandotte County. The K-7 and US-24/40 interchange project will include construction of new northbound and southbound K-7 bridges, all new ramps at the K-7 and US-24/40 interchange, and all new roadway pavement on K-7 and US-24/40.
The existing cloverleaf interchange will be replaced with a new partial cloverleaf or folded diamond interchange and the addition of auxiliary lanes on K-7 and US-24/40. The lane addition will provide traffic with acceleration and deceleration lanes for the new interchange on- and off-ramps.
During construction, traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction throughout the duration of the project. All existing ramps at the interchange of K-7 and US-24/40 will be closed during construction of the new ramps. Marked detours will be provided using US-24/40, K-7, I-70, and I-435 during the ramp closures.
Updated daily lane and ramp closure information for this interchange project can be viewed online at: www.ksdot.org/kcmetro/laneclose.asp. Drivers should expect minor delays during the project and are encouraged to use alternate routes, if possible.
APAC Kansas, Inc. is the primary contractor for this project with the total contract cost of $35, 739,978. The scheduled completion date for the entire interchange project is early winter 2008.
